Bandaranayake Airport Colombo

The nicely modernized Bandaranayake (CMB) Airport is located 20 miles north of Colombo.

The new terminal with modern gangways has made the old bus service redundant and it is now a great pleasure to arrive at the service friendly Colombo airport. However, that all depends on the time of arrival and the arrangement of the airline which might still go for a runway and bus lift.

Immigration procedures are fairly decent and relaxed though in recent times officers have been instructed to look deeper into documents and reasons for a visit. But despite the critical state of a war country the overall impression is positive and visitors should simply have a bit of understanding.

One nice compensation for a few minutes of waiting is certainly the availability of a decent duty free zone open to also arriving guests.

Most visitors have further transports arranged so that inside the airport building there are usually a lot of people waiting to pick up their friends, family or clients.
